Emigration from the parish of Schönholthausen

Bernard Grüneböhmer and the Oregon Trail.
The Oregon Trail was a route around 3500 km (2200 miles) long, over which settlers from the then populated parts of the eastern and central USA moved across the Rocky Mountains into the western United States around the middle of the 19th century. The route was mostly traveled in covered wagons and led through steppes, deserts and mountains in order to settle new regions in the Pacific Northwest. Large parts of the route were also used for treks to other parts of the West. The Oregon Trail was also the subject of several movies, including "The Road West" from 1967 starring Kirk Douglas, Robert Mitchum and Richard Widmark.
Some of our emigrants traveled this often dangerous route.
Bernhard Grueneboehmer from Lenhausen, Joseph Hoberg from Serkenrode, Johann Peter Kirchhoff from Rönkhausen, Johann Fischbach from Fretter, Johann Gruene from Schönholthausen and Erich Daniel Sommer from Finnentrop and many others.
